What is Pokémon Battle Academy?
Pokémon Battle Academy turns learning the Pokémon TCG into a ready-to-play tabletop experience. The box contains three complete 60-card decks, beginner tutorial materials, a two-player game board, a fuller rulebook, and the accessories needed to begin battling.
The guided materials help two new players work through an introductory match before moving into regular play. The featured Pokémon may differ between editions, but the purpose remains the same: teaching players how Pokémon, Trainer, and Energy cards work together in a complete game.
How does it play?
- Choose two decks and set up the battle. For the first game, follow the included tutorial guides so both players can learn the cards and turn sequence together.
- Prepare your Pokémon. Draw a card at the start of your turn, place Basic Pokémon on your Bench, evolve when permitted, use Trainer cards, and normally attach one Energy card per turn.
- Attack with your Active Pokémon. Attach the type and amount of Energy shown beside an attack, then apply its damage and any additional effects.
- Knock Out opposing Pokémon. When your opponent's Active Pokémon takes enough damage, it is Knocked Out and you take a Prize card.
- Claim your Prize cards. The main path to victory is taking all six of your Prize cards before your opponent does.
