Ransom Notes
Ransom Notes is a creative party game in which a random handful of word magnets becomes an awkward answer to a prompt. It can produce memorable group laughter, but the base game includes some mature themes, so Midnight Oil will use only age-appropriate, pre-screened prompts at community events in Titusville.

Quick facts
What is Ransom Notes?
Each player receives a metal tray and a random supply of small word magnets. A judge reveals a situation prompt, and everyone else builds a response using only the words available. The submissions are read aloud, the judge selects a favorite, and the role rotates for the next round.
The current publisher rates the base game 15+ and says roughly one-fifth of the prompts may need removal for family play. Some earlier editions are marked 17+. That makes prompt screening important before any all-ages event.
How does it play?
- Prepare the words and trays. Give each player a metal tray and a random handful of magnets.
- Reveal a prompt. The round's judge reads one situation card aloud.
- Build a response. Players have a short time to arrange their limited words into an answer; perfect grammar is not required.
- Choose a favorite. The judge reads the submissions, awards the round, and passes the role. A common ending is the first player to win five rounds.
Why you might like it
- Limited words encourage improvisation rather than polished writing.
- Very short rounds keep everyone creating and reacting.
- Different magnet combinations make repeated prompts feel new.
Who is it best for?
Ransom Notes is best for older teens and adults comfortable with improvised humor and subjective judging. Players need to read many small word magnets. Because the base game contains some adult-themed prompts, it should not be offered to an all-ages table without pre-screening and clear host supervision.
